    Reserve Component UMT Training

A key responsibility of USAR Career Managers and National Guard Chaplain Supervisors is to assist Chaplains, Chaplain Candidates, and Chaplain Assistants navigate the Army Chaplain/Chaplain Assistant Life Cycle.   This includes successfully enrolling and completing the progressive chaplain or chaplain assistant courses at the US Army Chaplain Center and School (USACHCS).

Reserve Component ministry requires communication from the onset of accessioning in order to successfully plan for all life cycle school requirements.  Events such as civilian schooling, relocation, pastoral assignments, mobilizations and promotions should be considered in the planning process.

The journey to USACHCS begins by scheduling a meeting between supervisor and subordinate.  Supervisors should meet regularly with their subordinate chaplains, chaplain candidates and chaplain assistants in order to support school applications and enrollment.

Registration for all army schools is managed through the Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS).  Current schedules for all USACHCS courses can be found on the ATTRS Course catalog at: https://atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/ .  Use the keyword “Chaplain” in the Course Title Field and enter the training year you wish to apply for a course to search the catalog

When the appropriate course has been found in the ATTRS catalog take this information to the Unit Readiness NCO.  One important point – some school courses have both a reserve and active duty equivalent.  Be sure you select the Reserve Component course when making an ATTRS course application.

The Unit Readiness NCO makes requests for schools and the command (USAR) or state (NG) ATTRS manager processes all school requests.

Registrations are reviewed at higher headquarters levels to ensure that enrollees meet course prerequisites.

    • TIPS FOR SUCCESS AT USACHCS

      Students should have:

    - An email from ATTRS confirming registration in each course/phase requested

    - An active AKO account (should be verified and checked weekly)

    - Valid Military ID (CAC Card)

    - Government credit card for travel (GSA SmartPay2)

    - Valid DTS account  - If your state or command does online travel through DTS

    - A working account with the USACHCS UMM/Blackboard (see student handbook)

    - All original documentation as described in the student handbook

    - Sufficient credit and/or cash for TDY

    - Proper military haircut

    - Uniforms (for chaplains and candidates) – ACU, PT and ASU (newly accessed chaplains and candidates should only purchase the ASUs, the Class A and Dress Blues are serviceable  until 4th QTR 2014 and can be used by prior service).  There will be ample time to purchase ASUs at Ft Jackson clothing sales before your student will be required to wear them.

    - Submit a Student Information Sheet and Lab Registration Form when requested

    - Be prepared physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually

    Supervisors:

    • - Check to be sure your student’s rank and Pay Entry Basic Date (PEBD) are accurate

    • - If Prior service enlisted, that he/she is coded for pay as prior service O1E/O2E/O3E

    • - Check IPERMS for current records, awards, etc

    • - Review his/her initial officer clothing allowance allocation (if applicable)

    • - Ensure that all concurrent phases are on one order (for CHBOLC).  Tours less than 31 days have limited benefits and cause problems in pay processing
    • - Check on pay/reimbursement processing for your student while at school

    • - Make a courtesy phone call to your student every two weeks

    • - Check on their family to ensure they are doing okay while their student is away

    • - Pray that he/she will be successful and grow during the experience
